Car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover said that it is launching a voluntary separation plan in the wake of a cyberattack which temporarily halted production for more than a month on Saturday.

The company confirmed not the exact numbers but the decision to cut jobs was intended to help streamline the organization, improve efficiency and build greater resilience. On Saturday, The Times said that as many as 4,000 jobs may be lost due to the impact of tariffs and a decline in sales.

In this connection, a spokesperson statement said: “ Today, we informed our colleagues, and trade union partners that JLR is opening a voluntary redundancy programme offering salaried and management team members the opportunity to leave the business.”

According to a government spokesperson, substantial measures have been adopted to back the UK automotive industry by lowering electricity bills for manufacturers and offering financial support for the sale of zero-emission vehicles.

The company confirmed it expected fewer than 300 people would leave the firm as part of the cost-reduction initiatives unveiled in July. The cyberattack in September 2025 resulted in the shutdown of all manufacturing at JLR for weeks, during which not a single vehicle came off the production lines.

This resulted in a 27% drop in overall production at the company which is one of the West Midlands’ largest employers. Additionally, the firm also announced plans to cut about £1.7bn in costs over the coming years to recover from the cyberattack.
