Apple makes major move to test China’s CXMT memory chips for iPhones, MacBooks

Apple has taken a significant step by testing memory chips from China’s CXMT across distinct product lines including iPhones and MacBooks to alleviate a hardware crunch caused by the machine learning surge sparked by the AI boom, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Sunday.

According to reports, Apple initiated preliminary discussions with CXMT- China’s largest chipmaker by market value to find and acquire the exact parts needed to build a final product sold in China.

As reported by the Reuters, Laptop makers HP and Acer have started using CXMT chips in devices sold outside the US to alleviate supply shortages.

The recent push comes as Apple raises its prices globally that has been caused by elevated semiconductor prices triggered by heavy demand from AI companies.

It has been observed that securing a supply line from a Chinese manufacturer could give Apple an extra buffer against rising costs. Nonetheless, rising memory prices began weighing the cargo of PCs and smartphones.

CXMT has become the fastest-growing supplier of DRAM which is a common type of memory chip with second-quarter revenue more than higher prices fueled by strong demand while expanding capacity and prices.
