Micron gives Taiwan workers up to 68 months pay after strike threat

In a latest update regarding corporate employee benefits, a U.S. memory chip giant Micron Technology announced a historic bonus and reward package for its workers in Taiwan, offering amounts equivalent to 35 to 68 months of pay for fiscal year 2026.

The massive payout comes after record-breaking profits driven by the explosive AI boom, which heavily boosted demand for high-bandwidth memory and DRAM, and directly follows a strong strike threat by local unions representing about two-thirds of Micron’s Taiwan workforce.

Micron said the payouts to employees were its strongest ever and that more than 60,000 staff globally will receive fiscal 2026 rewards "following an extraordinary year for the company".

The rewards cover approximately 15,000 employees in Taiwan, including operators, technicians, and shift engineers who have been on the payroll since August 2025.

Regarding the payout structure, minimum cash compensation starts at roughly NT$1.7 million, equivalent to about US$53,600.

Entry-level engineers are expected to rake in an average total compensation of NT$3.4 million, or over US$107,000, which includes both cash and stock awards.

The package also includes a special cash bonus of NT$1 million for qualifying long-term staff. Taiwan serves as Micron's largest memory manufacturing hub, accounting for roughly 60% of its total production capacity.

This unprecedented move is seen as a strategic step to stabilize labor relations, avert crippling factory strikes, and secure vital production capacity during an intensely competitive period for semiconductor talent.
