KSE-100 closes almost flat after range-bound trade as Moody's lifts credit rating

The Pakistan Stock Exchange closed slightly lower on Monday in a volatile session, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index falling 200 points to 176,970.

PSX witnessed a slightly negative session today, with the KSE-100 Index declining 200 points (-0.11% DoD) to close at 176,967. During the trading hours, the benchmark index remained range-bound, trading within a 1,387-point range, with an intraday high of 178,123 (+956 points; +0.54%) and a low of 176,736 (-431 points; -0.24%), 𝐀𝐥𝐢 𝐍𝐚𝐣𝐢𝐛, Deputy Head of Trading at Arif Habib Ltd.

On the macro front, Moody’s upgraded Pakistan’s credit rating to B3 from Caa1, while maintaining a Stable Outlook. Meanwhile, headline inflation for Aug’26 is expected to rise to 11.1% YoY, compared with 3.0% YoY in August 25.

On the index contribution front, OGDC, PPL, MLCF, DGKC, and FCCL collectively added 392 points to the benchmark index. Conversely, ENGROH, MEBL, SRVI, SYS, and MCB collectively erased 453 points amid selective profit-taking.

Market activity remained relatively stable, with traded volume reaching 930mn shares and total turnover of PKR 44bn. CNERGY topped the volume chart with 266mn shares traded.

Going forward, near-term trading is likely to remain range-bound and volatile, with 175k as key initial support. Continuous improvement in macros like Moody’s upgrade is supportive, while rising inflation and geopolitical risks may cap upside.
