OpenAI has taken a significant step toward overhauling its core ChatGPT platform, turning it into a “superapp” with coding tools and AI agents to maximize revenue ahead of an initial public offering, according to details revealed by the Financial Times on Sunday.
The significant changes are part of a strategic reorganization at OpenAI as it redirects resources to acquire high-value corporate accounts and intensify competition with rival Anthropic, in line with the current report citing multiple former employees.
The overhaul will give greater prominence and resources to OpenAI’s coding product Codex and is set to roll out in the coming weeks.
The report further clarified that OpenAI is refining ChatGPT’s interface with new prompts and features designed to steer users toward coding tools, image generation, and partner services like Canva and Booking.com
The company expects that revenue shares will rise to 50% by the end of the year as most Codex users are paying customers while 2 million businesses account for about 40% of OpenAI’s earnings.
It is pertinent to mention that ChatGPT serves more than 900 million active users, with consumer subscribers surpassing 50 million.
